Hello there! My name is Abby Teunissen.I grew up in Larchwood and am a proud West Lyon graduate. It's an honor to be able to teach first grade here at West Lyon and be able to give back to the community that played a large part in shaping me to be the person I am today.
My journey to teaching was not a linear one. Initially, I earned my B.S. in journalism and marketing from SDSU. For a few years while in college, I interned for a great digital marketing company based out of Sioux Falls, and was hired as a full-time digital marketing strategist after graduation. Although I worked with a great, cutting-edge team and learned some wonderful business and technical skills, I could not shake the feeling that I was being called to do more for those who matter most, those who will shape our future, those who are so very moldable and ready to dream --- our children. So, after much deliberation and encouragement from those who know my heart the best, I enrolled at Augustana University to obtain my degree in Elementary Education. After 4 semesters of education classes and a great student teaching experience in second grade here at West Lyon, I was finally a certified elementary teacher. And here I am, years later, absolutely loving the complex challenge that teaching is. I am married to Lucas Teunissen and we have three crazy, wonderful girls: Kobe (8), Parker (6), and Charlie (4). We live on a farm just outside of Alvord and we are perpetually exhausted from staying busy with our garden, playing volleyball, mowing or moving snow, attempting to conquer old-home update projects, tending to our many critters, and getting into adventures around the farm. In the summers, we love to play sand volleyball and practically live outside :). Please don't hesitate to contact me! You may email me at [email protected] or fill out the contact form and I will get back to you as soon as possible. |
